1. Do you prefer working in a team or alone?

This question has an underlying meaning I.e., whether you work well with your colleague nurses, doctors and the other health care staff. Considering teamwork is the key skills for those who work in the healthcare industry, you need to convey how much you value the association between the nurses, doctors and the rest of the staff for the healthy functioning of the organisation. Emphasize your answers with examples about how your interpersonal skills and teamwork helped you to ensure the effectiveness of your work.

2. How do you come up with ways to deal with a difficult patient?

While a nurse needs to be patient and compassionate, it can be a bit challenging to display tact and diplomacy in situations where you encounter a difficult patient who might not be happy with the service they received. I assured him saying he is under the best care and talked to him in a very friendly way to calm him down. He felt relieved and went to sleep. I learnt to look beyond the patient’s health concerns”.

Stress is a closely associated word with nurses or anyone who is in the medical field. Therefore, nurses must know how to relieve themselves of the stress that emanates from different aspects of their job.

” I try to get rid of the stress quite often so that it won’t lead to burnout. I attend seminars, read books on how to effectively manage stress. During my training I figured out how stressful nursing could be, hence I found ways like hobbies like movies, music and exercise that would interest me and relax me so that the stress wouldn’t take a toll on me”.

   4. How do you handle understaffing or when your replacement doesn’t arrive in time?

This is one of the most commonly asked clinical nurse interview questions.

Nurses at their post can’t leave all at once, they’re required to stay a couple more minutes for their replacement to arrive. This is to ensure the quality of the service.
